RIP Bill Kunkel

Mr. Bill Kunkel (July 21, 1950 - September 4, 2011) was a legend in the video game world.  He was the ultimate gamer and video game fan. He was the co-founder of the first video game magazine "Electronic Games", a game designer, author, musician, artist, teacher, satirist, a pro wrestling announcer, animal lover, Lifetime Achievement Reward recipient, a partner at J2Games, and a founding member and Editor In Chief of Running with Scissors.  Truly a renaissance man and always remained low key, only considering himself a gamer and fan before anything else.  He earned the nickname "The Game Doctor" for a article he wrote for several magazines and gaming sites.  Also to his credit he wrote numerous strategy guides.  As a game designer and expert witness he taught several courses in Game Design for the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV).  He remained active in the industry until his death.

The "grandfather of video game journalism" Kunkel published a memoir under the title Confessions of The Game Doctor. http://www.rolentapress.com/Products/Confessions%20of%20the%20Game%20Doctor/Preview.htm

Kunkel is also well-known for his ground-breaking wrestling journalism and being a cartoonist dating back to the 1970s.  He wrote DC in 1977-1978 including Superman, Madame Xanada, and Vigilante.  He also wrote at Marvel for Spider-man in 1978-1979.  In 1979 he started with Harvey Comics and wrote for Richie Rich.  Being a huge contributor to the start of Pro Wrestling Torch he helped turn the small newsletter into a wrestling newsletter powerhouse.  He later moved on to Wrestling Perspective as a cartoonist and columnist.

RIP Mr. Kunkel and thank you for helping to make the gaming world what is today. You will be missed.
